Going from Here to There
Text: Philippians 3:12–16
Philippians 3:12–16
(NIV) 12 Not that I have already
obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take
hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers
and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one
thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I
press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus. 15 All of us, then, who are mature
should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently,
that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to
what we have already attained.
Introduction:
“Personally, I’ve never
understood inactivity. Why a person would sit when he could soar, be a
spectator when he could play, or atrophy when he could develop…(it) is beyond
me!”—Bill
Hybels, Willow Creek Church

We must not be Constricted
by our Past
Philippians 3:13 (NKJV) 13
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which
are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

Forgetting the past “… simply means that we break the power of the
past by living for the future. We cannot change the past, but we can change the
meaning of the past”. --Warren Wiersbe

We must not be Complacent
about our Present Achievement
Philippians 3:12–13 (NKJV) 12 Not
that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I
may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which
are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

—Thomas A. Edison
COMLACENCY IS THE ENEMY OF ADVANCEMENT
“The first play is not to make “there”
sound wonderful. The first play is to make “here” sound awful.” Bill

We must Concentrate on Whatever it
would take to Move us from Here to There
Philippians 3:12–14 (NKJV) 12 Not
that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that
I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which
are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14
I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ
Jesus.
