How
To Give God Pleasure
Revelation
4:11 (NKJV) — 11 “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor
and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were
created.”
TEXT: John
4:1–38
INTRODUCTION:
Colossians 1:16
“Unless you assume a God, the question of
life’s purpose is meaningless.”--Bertrand Russell
I.
We can give God
Pleasure through our Worship.
Psalm
147:11; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Genesis 4:21; Psalm 150:6
“A
dairymaid can milk cows to the glory of God.”—Martin Luther, Church father
“Man's chief end is to glorify
God (1 Cor. 10:31), and to
enjoy him forever (Ps. 73:25-26)”. --Westminster Shorter Catechism
II.
We give God pleasure by doing things that gladdens God.
Ephesians 5:10; Genesis 6:8;
Exodus 23:2; Romans 12:2; Genesis 6:9; Hebrews 11:7 ;Psalm 147:10–11; Hebrews
11:6-7 ;Genesis 6:22; Genesis 8:20;
“God
doesn’t owe you an explanation or reason for everything he asks you to do.
Understanding can wait, but obedience can’t.”—Rick Warren
“Obey
first and then complain.”
III.
We give God
pleasure through total surrender to God’s will.
Romans 12:1;
“The reason why many are still troubled, still
seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven't yet come
to the end of themselves. We're still trying to give orders, and interfering
with God's work within us. ”—A.W. Tozer
"Surrendering to God is not passive resignation,
fatalism, or an excuse for laziness. It is not accepting the status quo. It may
mean the exact opposite: sacrificing your life or suffering in order to change
what needs to be changed. God often calls surrendered people to do battle on
his behalf. Surrendering is not for cowards or doormats."—Rick Warren
IV.
We give God pleasure as we Worship Him in a way that
is delights God.
John 4:23; Matthew 22:37;1
Corinthians 14:40;2 Samuel 24:24
CONCLUSION:
Heart of Worship by Matt Redman
When the music fades
and all is stripped away
and I simply come.
Longing just to bring
something that's of worth
that will bless Your heart.
I'll bring You more than a song,
for a song in itself
is not what You have required.
You search much deeper within,
through the way things appear,
You're looking into my heart.
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
and it's all about You, it's all about You, Jesus.
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
when it's all about You, it's all about You, Jesus.
