Habakkuk: From Complaints to Confidence
Prayer, Praise, Pledge

Memory Verse: Hab 3:2 (NKJV) O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.

 Text:

Hab 3:1 - 19 (NKJV) 1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on Shigionoth. 2 O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy. 3 God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens, And the earth was full of His praise. 4 His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, And there His power was hidden. 5 Before Him went pestilence, And fever followed at His feet. 6 He stood and measured the earth; He looked and startled the nations. And the everlasting mountains were scattered, The perpetual hills bowed. His ways are everlasting. 7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; The curtains of the land of Midian trembled. 8 O Lord, were You displeased with the rivers, Was Your anger against the rivers, Was Your wrath against the sea, That You rode on Your horses, Your chariots of salvation? 9 Your bow was made quite ready; Oaths were sworn over Your arrows. Selah You divided the earth with rivers. 10 The mountains saw You and trembled; The overflowing of the water passed by. The deep uttered its voice, And lifted its hands on high. 11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation; At the light of Your arrows they went, At the shining of Your glittering spear. 12 You marched through the land in indignation; You trampled the nations in anger. 13 You went forth for the salvation of Your people, For salvation with Your Anointed. You struck the head from the house of the wicked, By laying bare from foundation to neck. Selah 14 You thrust through with his own arrows The head of his villages. They came out like a whirlwind to scatter me; Their rejoicing was like feasting on the poor in secret. 15 You walked through the sea with Your horses, Through the heap of great waters. 16 When I heard, my body trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered my bones; And I trembled in myself, That I might rest in the day of trouble. When he comes up to the people, He will invade them with his troops. 17 Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. 19 The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills. To the Chief Musician. With my stringed instruments.

INTRODUCTION:

(Hab 2:20) 20 The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.

1.       The Prayer

Hab 3:1 - 2 (NKJV) 1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on Shigionoth. 2 O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.

Prov 18:10 (KJV) 10The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Isa 64:6 (NKJV) 6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

Hebrew word shigionoth refers to a type of song. Perhaps it refers to a passionate song with rapid changes of rhythm, or a dirge.

2.    The Praise.

Hab 3:3 - 15 (NKJV) 3 God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. 9 Your bow was made quite ready; Oaths were sworn over Your £arrows.

Deut 33:2 (NKJV) 2And he said: “The Lord came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came with ten thousands of saints; From His right hand Came a fiery law for them.

Hab 3:4 (NKJV) 4 His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, And there His power was hidden.

Isa 24:1 - 3 (NKJV) 1 Behold, the Lord makes the earth empty and makes it waste, Distorts its surface And scatters abroad its inhabitants. 2 And it shall be: As with the people, so with the priest; As with the servant, so with his master; As with the maid, so with her mistress; As with the buyer, so with the seller; As with the lender, so with the borrower; As with the creditor, so with the debtor. 3 The land shall be entirely emptied and utterly plundered, For the Lord has spoken this word.

Nah 1:5 (NKJV) 5 The mountains quake before Him, The hills melt, And the earth heaves at His presence, Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

Mic 1:3 - 4 (NKJV) 3 For behold, the Lord is coming out of His place; He will come down And tread on the high places of the earth. 4 The mountains will melt under Him, And the valleys will split Like wax before the fire, Like waters poured down a steep place.

Jer 4:24 - 26 (NKJV) 24 I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, And all the hills moved back and forth. 25 I beheld, and indeed there was no man, And all the birds of the heavens had fled. 26 I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the Lord, By His fierce anger.

Josh 10:12 - 13 (NKJV) 12Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

Ex 15:3 (NKJV) 3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name.

Psa 18:14 (NKJV) 14 He sent out His arrows and scattered the foe, Lightnings in abundance, and He vanquished them.

Psa 77:17 (NKJV) 17 The clouds poured out water; The skies sent out a sound; Your arrows also flashed about.

2 Thess 1:7 (NKJV) 7and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,

Psa 114:2 (NKJV) 2 Judah became His sanctuary, And Israel His dominion.

Psa 114:2 (NKJV) 2 Judah became His sanctuary, And Israel His dominion.

3.    The Pledge.

Hab 3:16 - 19 (NKJV) 16 When I heard, my body trembled; My lips quivered at the voice; Rottenness entered my bones; And I trembled in myself, That I might rest in the day of trouble.

Psa 18:32 (NKJV) 32 It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect.

Psa 18:39 (NKJV) 39 For You have armed me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.

Mal 4:2 (NKJV) 2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

Habakkuk 2:4 "The righteous one will live by his faith."

CONCLUSION:
Heb 11:1 (NKJV) 1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Heb 11:6 (NKJV) 6But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him
