NOAH: TRUE FAITH WORKS-Outline only

Faith: The Heartbeat of an Authentic Christian Living
NOAH: TRUE FAITH WORKS

Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:7 (NIV) By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

TEXT: Genesis 6:1-22

INTRODUCTION:

Noah means Rest; comfort; comforter; motion, wandering.

Two different people named Noah in the Bible. One is Male while the other is female. One is the son of Lamech while the other is the daughter of Zelophehad.
Numbers 26:33 (NKJV) 33 Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Genesis 5:29 (NKJV) 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.”

 Genesis 5:28–29; Luke 3:36

Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth (Gn. 5:32; 9:18–19; 10:1).

Easton's Bible Dictionary  says the following about Noah: “This patriarch is rightly regarded as the connecting link between the old and the new world. He is the second great progenitor of the human family.”

Noah ad his Shortcomings also:
Genesis 9:20–22 (NKJV) 20 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 21 Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

Read Proverbs 20:1 about warnings concerning alcohol consumption.

Proverbs 20:1 (NASB95) Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.

Antediluvian ante- + Latin diluvium flood — more at deluge] relating to the period before the flood described in the Bible.

Genesis 6:8–9 (NKJV) 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

1.   The Rationale
Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV) 7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Greek word χρηματίζω chrēmatizō: make known a divine warning, reveal divine message; (pass.) be revealed, be warned.---DBL Greek

The same Greek word used in this verse: Hebrews 8:5
Amos 3:7 (NKJV) Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Genesis 6:5–12 (ESV) The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

2.   The Response.
Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Greek: εὐλαβέομαι eulabeomai means be concerned; respect, show reverence for, have holy fear, obey, common fear of a circumstance.--DBL Greek

The same Greek word used in this verse: Hebrews 5:7
1 Peter 3:19–20
Genesis 6:22 (HCSB) 22 And Noah did this. He did everything that God had commanded him.

Cf. 2 Peter 2:5 , 1 Peter 3:20

Lawrence O. Richards says "Faith obeys God and keeps on obeying."

3.   The Reward.
Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV) 7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Greek: κληρονόμος klēronomos heir; beneficiary, receiver (Jas 2:5), heir, one who gets the inheritance (Mk 12:7)--DBL Greek

Genesis 6:9

Ezekiel 14:14, 20 (NIV) 14 even if these three men—Noah, Daniel  and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord…. as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.

2 Peter 2:5 (NIV)  if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

CONCLUSION:
1 Peter 3:20–21 (ESV) 20 because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
