What Christmas is all About-Outline only

What Christmas is all About
© John Ojewole, 2011
Galatians 4:4-5
Galatians 4:4–5 (NKJV) But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

INTRODUCTION:
"The message of Christmas is not about the
proclamation of a holiday or the declaration of a
season. It is about the proclamation of a Person and
the declaration of Salvation. The birth of the child
in the manger was an event that prophets had written
about, the people of Israel had spoken about, the
patriarchs of old had wondered about, and the angels
of God shouted about on that glorious night when
Christ was born."
-- Roy Lessin

1.     Christmas is about the Miraculous birth of the messiah.
Luke 1:30–35

·        The virginity of his birth affirms his divinity. Matthew 1:18

·        His incarnation is an uncommon miracle. John 1:14

·        His manifestation is miraculous. Colossians 1:15–17

2.     Christmas is about God’s Mission  to save the world.

a. His Mission is embedded in the symbolic meaning of his name.
Matthew 1:21 (NIV) 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,  because he will save his people from their sins.”

b. His mission is global and ecumenical. John 3:16; John 1:29–30

c. His mission is redemptive. Galatians 4:4-5.
i.                   Jesus was born at the Appointed time. Galatians 4:4a.

“Fullness of Time”—Greek plērōma completeness, fullness, a total quantity, fulfillment; a totality of a time period.

ii.                 Jesus’ Birth was an Amazing Historical Event Galatians 4:4b; Cf. John 3:16

iii.              Jesus came to the world for an Appropriate Purpose. Galatians 4:5

·        He came to Redeem us

d. His mission is clear and specific. Luke 19:10

3.     Christmas is about the Divine Message of hope

Luke 2:9–14 (HCSB) Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: 11 Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David. 12 This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.”
13 Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
14 Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to people He favors!

Matthew 6:33
